Activated on March 7, 2005, the Galveston VA Outpatient Clinic is one of two Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center satellite clinics located in Galveston County. In September 2008, the clinic was destroyed by Hurricane Ike.

In March 2009, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center held a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony officially re-opening the Galveston VA Outpatient Clinic. The clinic is located on 3828 Avenue N on Galveston Island near 39th Street and close to many restaurants and businesses.
 
The clinic is staffed by VA personnel and provides primary health care, mental health care, pharmacist, Telehealth, Teleretinal, homeless Veteran, phlebotomy, women’s health services, and laboratory services for Veterans in the area. Emergency medication needs are met on a local contract basis.
