VA Butler Healthcare provides primary care, behavioral health, specialized extended care, physical rehabilitation medicine, and residential substance abuse treatment serving over 18,000 veterans in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. The facility operates 60 nursing home care beds, 10 CWT-TR and 56 domiciliary beds. The outpatient programs generate approximately 125,000 visits per year. VA Butler Healthcare's facility is located on an 88-acre campus three miles northwest of Butler, Pa., on route 356 (New Castle Rd.). VA Butler operates Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in Armstrong, Clarion, Butler (Cranberry Township), Larence and Mercer counties. The facility is part of the VA Healthcare VISN 4 network, which includes 9 other VA facilities in Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia. VA Butler enjoys a close partnership with the butler Memorial Hospital (BMH), which serves Butler County. Through a contractual arrangement with BMH radiology (and some cardiology) services testing is provided. Patients requiring emergency and critical care-- who are unable to travel to VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System-- are often referred to BMH.

VA Butler Healthcare is affiliated with 30 colleges and universities (locally and nationwide). Currently, the affiliation agreements cover programs in diverse fiels such as audiology, psychology, nursing, social work, counseling, pharmacy, occupational and physical therapy, recreation, information technology, dietary, community health, medical assistant and phlebotomy. The educational levels range from the certificate level and up through the bachelor, masters and doctoral degree levels. Additionally, there is an agreement with a local vocational-technical school. Our training emphasizes learning specific skills through collaboration and teamwork while demonstrating those clinical skills under the supervision of a content expert.
