Facility Picture
The Jesse Brown VA Medical Center consists of a 205 bed facility (188 acute care beds and 17 intermediate care beds) and four community based outpatient clinics.  Jesse Brown VAMC provides care to approximately 58,000 veterans who reside in the City of Chicago and Cook County, Illinois and in six counties in northwestern Indiana.  In FY06, the medical center had approximately 6,300 inpatient admissions and 545,000 outpatient visits. A budget of over $250 million supports approximately 1,700 full time equivalent staff, including 145 physicians and 450 nurses. Over 375 individuals volunteer at Jesse Brown VAMC sites of care. The overrididing strategic direction of Jesse Brown VAMC over the next several years has been the implementation of Capital Asset Realignment for Enchanced Services (CARES) initiatives approved by the Secretary Principi in February 2002. The major Chicago-related components of the CARES study are the construction of a new 205 bed tower at the Medical Center and the enhanced use lease of the Lakeside community based outpatient clinic property.
