Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center (SRMVC) in Bonham, Texas provides primary health care, nursing home care, and long-term rehabilitative care to eligible veterans. Located on a 78-acre site, SRMVC serves veterans in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma, providing a full range of primary and geriatric care programs for the rapidly growing population of aging veterans. In FY 06, SRMVC handled approximately 119 nursing home admissions, 673 domiciliary admissions as well as 159,021 outpatient visits.

Facilities include:

  • 139-bed nursing home care unit for extended care, including skilled nursing care, assisted care unit, specialized dementia unit, palliative, and respite care
  • 224-bed domiciliary for rehabilitative care, including substance abuse program, interlude unit, health maintenance program, supportive work program and compensated work therapy
  • 5-bed Psychiatric Residential Rehabilitation Therapy Program

The Domiciliary Care Program at SRMVC provides a range of services to veterans who require a structured, sheltered, tranquil, environment. Services include a health maintenance program for veterans with multiple medical problems and limited resources, work evaluation program to assist veterans in obtaining gainful employment, and a substance abuse program to assist in recovery from addiction.

The substance abuse program also includes "Interlude", a special intervention protocol for substance abuse patients.

A Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) program, including a physician, nurse, social worker and kinesiotherapist, is available for outpatient services. SCI telemedicine is available as needed.

Additional specialty outpatient services include audiology, dermatology, ENT, Foot Care, GYN, Optometry, Pacemaker, Podiatry, Rheumatology, and Speech Therapy.

SRMVC has developed cooperative relationships with other providers in the area to enhance more comprehensive services and accessibility for veterans.

Like Dallas VA Medical Center, SRMVC serves as an important teaching facility and is affiliated with Grayson County College. Other affiliations encompass nursing, social work, dentistry, and psychology training programs. With over 400 employees, SRMVC has the largest payroll in Fannin County. Approximately 400 volunteers give their time and energy to help in many areas throughout the facility.

The Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home Is located adjacent to the SRMVC campus.
