The Carl T. Hayden Veterans Medical Center is categorized as a Clinical Referral Level 1 facility. The facility serves veterans in central Arizona including the rapidly expanding metropolitan Phoenix area. The Medical Center provides acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric inpatient care, as well as, rehabilitation medicine, and neurological care. The Medical Center currently operates 129 Medical and Surgical Inpatient beds, 104 Community Living Center beds, 48 beds for Mental Health and 20 Substance Abuse Recovery beds. The facility also operates the Southeast VA Health Care Clinic, the Northwest VA Health Care Clinic, Buckeye VA Health Care Clinic, Globe-Miami VA Health Care Clinic, Payson VA Health Care Clinic, and the Show Low Health Care Extension Clinic. The Medical Center provides support to one Readjustment Counseling Center and the VA National Cemetery. The Medical Center is affiliated with The University of Arizona College of Medicine. Training agreements are maintained in all of the major clinical specialties, and the facility is allocated 73 resident positions. The Medical Center is also affiliated with several schools through which a full range of Allied Health training programs are provided. Over 322,002 veterans reside in the facility's primary service area.
