The Veterans in Partnership (VIP) Network consists of a system of seven medical centers and 22 operating Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in a catchment area that spans central Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and northwest Ohio. VISN 11 is a large and geographically diverse network and covers 90,100 square miles. The VIP network medical centers operate 1812 beds including acute medical and surgical, psychiatric, and nursing home beds. The network has a workforce of 9,895 employees in all facilities and the estimated FY 2008 budget is $1.2 billion dollars. The VIP network health care system includes the following medical centers which in turn administer a number of CBOCs:
- VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, Ann Arbor, Michigan
administers three CBOCs.
- VAMC Battle Creek, Michigan administers four CBOCs.
- VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville, Illinois administers four CBOCs.
- John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, Detroit, Michigan administers two CBOCs.
- Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, Indianapolis, Indiana administers two CBOCs.
- VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System, Fort Wayne and Marion, Indiana administers three CBOCs.
- Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, Saginaw, Michigan administers four CBOCs.
In addition to these medical centers and outpatient primary care centers, the VISN also contains eight Veterans Readjustment Centers and three Domiciliary facilities.
As of FY 2008, an estimated 1.30 million veterans live in the VIP network with an estimated 332,000 veterans enrolled for VA healthcare within the VISN which equates to a market share of 26%. In FY 2008, a total of 237,494 unique veterans were treated in VISN 11 facilities which included 22,512 inpatient episodes of care and 2,085,012 outpatient visits. Approximately 18% of the total outpatient visits or 376,434 visits occurred at the network CBOCs.
All of the network medical centers collaborate in the support of medical and health systems research. The Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Indianapolis VA medical centers directly administer active research programs that include both VA and other supported research. The network also includes a Geriatric Research Education Clinical Center (GRECC) and a Health Systems Research and Development (HSRD) Center.
The network medical centers support education and serve as training sites for graduate medical education, nursing education, and ancillary support education.
